Common Ailment Scheme

The common Ailments Scheme is a new facility being delivered by Community  Pharmacists in South Tyneside.

The scheme is aimed at patients who would normally access a GP, Walk in Centre or Accident & Emergency for minor ailments.  Patients who choose to consult their GP for the treatment of minor ailments are free to do so, but will be subject to the availability of appointments which may result in a delay to receiving a consultation.

Minor ailments seen in pharmacies include:

Aches & Pains: Back Pain, Headache, Migraine, Muscular ache, Period pain, Teething or Toothache

Allergies: Bites & Stings, Hay Fever and Skin Reactions

Colds & Flu: Cough, Congestion, Sore Throat, Fever & Temperature

Ear Care:  Earache, Ear infection or Ear wax

Eye Care: Bacterial Conjunctivitis & Styes

Gastrointestinal Care: Constipation, Diarrhoea, Dyspepsia, Haemorrhoids, Indigestion, Reflux, Threadworm or Vomiting

Head Lice

Mouth Care: Cold Sores, Oral Thrush or Ulcers

Skin Care: Athletes foot, Chickenpox, Contact Dermatitis/Atopc Eczema, Fungal skin infections, Impetigo, Nappy Rash, Pruritis, Scabies, Warts & Verrucae

Vaginal Thrush

Sundries

The pharmacist will provide a sufficient level of privacy and safety for patients accessing the service.  All patients over the age of 16 accessing the service must be in attendance, but a child being treated need not be present.
